Board Member Job Description

Are you passionate about international development and social justice? Do you have specific skills and ideas that you’d like to put toward the growth of a nonprofit organization? Manna Project International (MPI), a nonprofit operating health, education, and economic empowerment programs in developing countries (currently Ecuador), is looking for passionate and motivated individuals to join our Board of Directors.

About MPI:

Since 2004, Manna Project International (MPI) has mobilized communities of young leaders to become agents of social change through immersive service experiences in under-resourced communities. Today, MPI operates in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador, where our staff, and volunteers collaborate with local leaders to implement sustainable, community-driven programs. These initiatives span public health, education, youth development, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment.

MPI is committed to empowering the next generation of global changemakers through hands-on leadership, cross-cultural collaboration, and meaningful community engagement. Our volunteers develop practical skills while working alongside community partners to address critical challenges and co-create innovative solutions.

As MPI enters a new phase of organizational development, we are focused on deepening our impact in the Napo Province of Ecuador through strategic partnerships, increased volunteer engagement, and diversified funding. Our vision is to build a more sustainable, inclusive future for the communities we serve—while cultivating leaders equipped to tackle complex global issues.

Board Responsibilities:

MPI’s Board of Directors provides the strategic vision and oversight to ensure that MPI pursues its mission in an ambitious and responsible manner. The Board has the legal and fiduciary responsibility and authority to establish and guide the values and perspectives of the organization to ensure MPI is achieving the goals set forth by its mission and vision.

Qualifications:

  • A strong passion for international development, social justice, and cultivating future leaders in social change.

  • A commitment to MPI’s collaborative, community-based approach to holistic development in underserved communities.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting—setting goals, solving problems, and contributing to strategic decision-making.

  • Vision, creativity, and initiative to strengthen MPI’s impact and support sustainable organizational growth.

  • Willingness and availability to dedicate 5–8 hours per month to board responsibilities.

  • Readiness to represent MPI at conferences, events, and networking opportunities for recruitment, fundraising, and awareness-building.

  • A commitment to contribute or raise a minimum of $4,000 annually in support of MPI’s mission.

  • A willingness to serve a minimum board term of two years.

Additional desired qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a board member

  • Prior experience working in or with Ecuador

  • Global Education expertise or work experience (i.e. teaching abroad, working to help with student placement abroad, etc.)

Start Date: May 2025, or rolling
